My name is Cindy Lauterbach, and working with fabric in creative ways has been part of my DNA since I was a pre-teen. I started with coll clothes and quickly realized that it was not that fun or rewarding. Instead I dove into creating clothes for myself. High school found me trying all sorts of new things: prom dresses, costumes, quilts, and all types of dresses. By the time I hit high school I was copying clothing I saw in magazines or television. In college in worked at a bridal shop doing alterations to gowns, bridesmaids' dresses, and tuxes. I designed and created my own wedding dress, all of my bridesmaids' dresses, and even made a double-wedding ring bed quilt from the leftovers from those dresses.
I wasn't scared to try creating anything with fabric, but it didn't always go to plan. Trial and error has been an awesome teacher, and I now have the skills to tackle almost any project. In college, I studied small business management as I hoped to open my own sewing business. As often happens, life had other plans and I took a detour into medical management for about 25 years.
Now I'm back to sewing for real and loving every minute of it. I began my company Hermia's Creations 4 years ago. It is named after my foster kitten Hermia who supervises my work from on top of my longarm quilting machine. My specialtiies now are dance costumes, wedding clothing, and custom quilting.
